And they wonder why couples have communication problems...

Left brain dominant individuals are more orderly, literal, articulate, and to the point. They are good at understanding directions and anything that is explicit and logical. They can have trouble comprehending emotions and abstract concepts, they can feel lost when things are not clear, doubting anything that is not stated and proven.

Right brain dominant individuals are more visual and intuitive. They are better at summarizing multiple points, picking up on what's not said, visualizing things, and making things up. They can lack attention to detail, directness, organization, and the ability to explain their ideas verbally, leaving them unable to communicate effectively.

Me

Left Brain (24%) The left hemisphere is the logical, articulate, assertive, and practical side of the brain
Overall you appear to be Right Brain Dominant

I guess that sort of explains, well, it explains a lot. And I wondered why we drive each other crazy...
Well, I suppose it is as they say: Opposites attract!
Oh, and I have tried to learn to speak "Simon" and he is continuously improving his "Jeannine", but we still get "lost in translation"...
Good thing I love him, otherwise I would be in trouble...

Another one of those boring posts...

I really have no idea what to write here but I feel the overwhelming urge to write something...
Well, Simon is back in the UK and parting does not get any easier. You'd think that after almost two years of this backwards and forwards thing we would be used to it by now, but it seems to be getting more difficult each time (to say goodbye I mean).
Well, he will be back after Christmas.
My first Christmas without him in four years...

Oh, I have been coughing all night. Guess I caught the virus that seems to be going around, well at least one of them as there are several...

The dance recital went really well. My younger one chased down a local celebrity and got his autograph and now she is in love... LOL
The lad is a really good dancer though so at least she has taste.
And her infatuation is of the harmless, silly kind, so I am not really worried.

Well, my older one is staying home from school today as she has an upset tummy... (Seems like she caught one of the other viruses...)
Great! This tends to mean that it is first her, then her sister, then me and then them again... Especially since things never seem to last very long with the kids but linger for weeks with me as my immune system is shot to pieces, thanks to my illness and the various meds...
Simon tends to tease me saying that I should wear a bell shouting "unclean, unclean" in these situations.
Bet he's glad he's not here for this!

Enough rambling for now...
I think I am heading back to bed myself.

Bye Bye Baby!

Somehow this updating regularly business really isn't working properly at the moment. For all the good intentions I just don't have the drive for it at the moment.
Maybe it is because in the last few months I have had to come to terms with one very difficult fact.
I will never have another Baby!
I am currently having medical treatment leading up to surgery because I have problems with my "female bits".
So the treatment I am getting is not only putting me artificially into menopause (at 30!!!!!!!!) but I also have pretty much every side effect that is in the book!
Including depression!
And depression is definitely a downer when it comes to doing anything, regularly...

Well (or not for that matter), as I already said, I will never be able to get pregnant again. The surgery will take care of that.
And I know what people will say, are saying:
"But you already have two beautiful daughters!"
I know I do.
and
"There are so many women that have the same problem and no children!"
I know that as well.

It still does not change the fact, that first of all, I really wanted to have a child with Simon and also that it closes a chapter I am just not ready to close yet.
I have tried to explain to Simon, why this was upsetting me so much and I honestly couldn't find the words to explain it. All I know, is that I am feeling a severe sense of loss.
Maybe "grief" is the right word? Grief for a baby, that in a way I was looking forward to welcoming into this world and that I will now never meet?
Does that make sense?

On top of that all the other medical problems are piling up and are getting on top of me and all the different treatments are driving me nuts.
The painkillers make me drowsy and tired, one is making me nervous and another one is making me nauseous...
So i have decided to do one thing after another much to the dismay of my health insurance who think, that I should be doing everything all at once so they don't have to pay up for such a long time, no matter how much a toll it takes on my body and my mental health...
Bureaucrats!

Apart from that we are keeping busy...
The kids are in a play at school which I am going to have the privilege of watching on the 18th of December, although I don't know which of my children I will be seeing, as there are two casts for the play because there were so many kids wanting to participate this year.
The younger one has decided take up gymnastics and Jazz Dance She has left Football (Soccer) after having been driven away by some unruly boys earlier this year.
She has given it some thought though and decided to go back this Friday and tough it out! Good for her.

The older one is still doing Irish Dance and has her first hard shoe performance this upcoming Monday! I think I am almost as nervous as she is.

Simon is coming on Friday and we will be celebrating a late Thanksgiving on Sunday, which reminds me that I still have to go to the local farmer and get a turkey. For a strange reason I am actually looking forward to a day of cooking and doing dishes...

There is only on snag with Thanksgiving this year. I have had a falling out with my brother and I don't think he will be coming. I think it actually hurts me more than him...
I really want to reconcile things with him but I can't quite get myself to make the first step, again!
He said some things, that really hurt me and he, again, has not kept promises he made to me and the kids. And I don't know, how I am going to approach him without giving him the impression that it was OK to treat us the way he did. But I do know, that if I don't make the first step I will probably never talk to my brother again...

Oh and I bought myself an alto flute so I can accompany my older one on the recorder. No I have to practise reading music again...
We are endeavoring to play some Christmas music at our pre-x-mas-chill-out evening, an event I have called into live in order to have some calm time before Christmas as nowadays it is always so hectic!
So a few friends of ours and us are meeting to have a nice relaxed evening with cookies and carol singing, where we can remember the true meaning of Christmas! Sounds cheesy I know, but it is really cool!

I think I am doing a good job repressing my pain, don't you?...
Sorry, sarcastic, evil Jeannine has the upper hand lately.

Typical

Simon is here for the week.
We had planned to make this our holiday, go swimming and hiking and lots of other outdoor activities and guess what?
It is raining and raining and raining!
We even had a thunderstorm!
This is just sooo typical...
Oh well, we are set on making the best of it anyways!

13... deel acht (#8)

Thirteen things said to me lately

Leonore Zimmermann "Talking about love"

1…. "We will call you on Monday..." (they guys I had an interview with for a translation job today)

2…. "I never get to do anything or go anywhere! I hate you!!!" (one of my daughters because I wouldn't let her sleep over at a friends when her homework wasn't done)

3…. "But I promise to do it when I come back" (same daughter still trying to get me to let her sleep over)

4…. "I love you mummy" (still same daughter that evening, whilst lying in bed after we talked about responsibility)

5…. "But, but, but... I can't do it..." (other daughter about cleaning up the cat food bowls (her chores) - accompanied by an Oscar worthy whine)

6….
A light from behind the clouds.
A flash of white in the air.
My heart leaps as I see your smile appear.
It brightens the face of my love
(Simon via text message when I was feeling very down)

7…. "Don't be nervous about the meeting or your capability , you are a very sound writer and have got brains to spare [ pardon the expression ] you have a clarity of thinking that beggars most people as you don't blather .. They will be lucky if you accept. " (my friend Peter when I was anxious about above mentioned interview)

8…. "now would seem like the right moment to catch yourself unawares and go to bed before your brain releases more chemicals and your mind goes back into over drive..." (again my friend Peter after I had a very arduous day and me feeling extremely tired - very sound advice...)

9…. "You shouldn't tough it out all the time" (my doctor because I am not taking the pain meds as I should)

10…. "Life is so unfair and cruel!" (my younger daughter because my older daughter had a friend round and they didn't want her to play with them)

11…. "Now we don't have any money anymore!" (after I spent my last money this month on a new battery for the car and some petrol)

12…. "It would be great being closer, so I could take you for lunch, coffee or shopping...let the girls loose on a mall altogether with very limited cash flow damage capacity" (my friend Renée who by the way is also the "asker" of the questions of the post before last)

13…. "but here's the rub ... on sisters they need to wobble to make the planet have seasons and become inhabitable, does it have an inclination and a wobble making moon ?" (Peter again... in the midst of our discussion about the sister planet found 20.5 light years away from earth... don't ask...)

How am I? Really?

Someone sent me an email today asking me
"How are you? I mean, how are you really?"
It made me think...
How am I, really?

I am struggling with my illness, it is playing havoc with my body.
There is something new wrong about every five minutes. At least it feels like that.
The only drugs that help me with the pain are so strong that I feel all "mushy" and "out of it" when I take them. So I don't take them unless I really can't stand it anymore.
The pain on the other hand makes me aggressive, short tempered and I am always tired.
I don't sleep well and of course, it feels like on big "merry go round" without the merry!

My kids are doing their job and driving me crazy.
They argue... Boy, do they argue!
Watching them sometimes makes you forget they are little girls. When you sort of glance at them out of the corner of your eye while they are going at it you get the impression there are two little Banshees screaming their heads of and tearing each others hair out...
And by the sound of their waling at times, it really does sound like one or the other is about to die...
I do love them dearly!
My work or rather non work situation really frustrates me. Every time I seem to get on my feet with it, my health or something else thwarts my plans.

I need money!
I need work!
I need a break!
I need Simon!
I need a secretary to sort all my paperwork.
I need a nice person that comes along and says "Oh, you want to properly furnish your school? Here is the money and the workers and do you need anything else?"!
I need this stupid illness to magically disappear!
I want my friends right here with me and not halfway across the world!
I need one day, just one day without pain!

So how am I? Well, you figure it out...

Here I am again

First of all, I would like to thank Katelyn, Claire, Suzy, Marcus and Edi for not giving up on me.

Yes it has been a long time and yes, at first I was busy, but busy turned into stressed and stressed turned into 'can't be bothered'.

My apologies.

A lot has happened.

We are in the new place, but there is so much I still need to do and my health is failing me on a regular basis, which in return causes a sort of apathy which of course results in things NOT getting done which causes me even more stress which causes......
Sort of a dog biting it's own tail. When I said this to Simon I got the the following comment:
Either you chop of the dogs tail, knock it's teeth in or preoccupy it!
My Simon, always the practical, logical thinker! I keep saying, that I wish it was that easy, which of course in essence it would be if it wasn't for me complicating things in the first place... and I am rambling, I know!

So what has happened?

My youngest had her First Communion. She had a wonderful time and I am so glad I have a daughter who can be happy about the €90 she got even in the face of the other children bragging about getting anywhere from €250 upwards! Of course nowadays 99% of all children who receive first communion (at least around here) do so not for the religious meaning it has but because it is the "done" thing. And of course for all the presents and the money and the fancy white dress (for the girls anyways) and first but foremost for appearances!

My older daughter placed 3rd in the group competition of the championships. She did not place in the singles and she was rather upset because of it, but as I told her, there is always next year.

And third in group is fantastic!

Oh, I am now officially a "Mika Fan"!!!
I have not heard an album that made me jump around the house and look like a complete and utter fool in a long time! Check him out:

You just try and sit still while listening to his music!
"Life in Cartoon Motion" is really worth the buy!

After quite a long time off ill, I am now back on the work wagon, I hope.
Some of my latest work. What do you think?

I did another Shoot since then but I am still waiting for those images.

Oh and Simon wrote me a poem:

The sunlight falls softly around
Your face is lit with radiance alone
But all is Shadow next to love
Which shines and dazzles us all
I think it is beautiful, but then again, I am sort of biased... :-)

So this is gonna be it for now.
Promise to write again daily from now on, well maybe not promise to actually do but promise to attempt to...

I can hear Simon in my head now

" There is no "I try" there is just "I do"

- Simon -
my conscience!

Good Bye

You're gone again!
A hug, a kiss, some tears.
Watching you walking away.
Again.

And once more the doubt.
Is this the right thing?
Again.

Soft sobs from the back seat as we drive around the corner.
They break my heart.
Again.

I know you are hurting.
"I don't want to leave!" you say.
Again.

How long will logic and reason keep us apart?
We pin our hopes on the future.
Maybe soon...

Until then we say a thousand goodbyes.

Life? Don't talk to me about life!

My kettle just died on me! Or rather it tried to do a dishwasher and set my flat on fire!!!
I went into the kitchen, to find out what that strange smell was (Déjà-vu) and there it was. Smoldering slowly. I know I had turned it off. Now why did it turn itself back on, cooked all the water away and continued heating? Why would it do such a thing?
Oh, I know:
42
Next thing you know I will have two mice knocking on my door asking for my brain...

Oh well, Simon is coming tomorrow and I am as sick as a dog, can barely speak and make
rather strange gurgle noises while trying not to cough while breathing. My nose is red and runny and I, in general, am a complete mess. Yeah me!!!
Again, I am trying to get some sleep (as much as my cold will allow).

Oh and I have a request:

Tomorrow (1st of Feb 2007) at 19.55 until 20.00 CET (Central European Time), please turn off all your electrical appliances and your lights. Give our Planet some well deserved rest!

L'Alliance pour la Planè (group of environmental associations) call upon all citizens: Grant the planet 5 minutes of rest. You are kindly requested to dim all your lights on February 1st, 2007 from 19.55 to 20.00hrs CET. This is not only about saving energy on that day during 5 minutes, but it’s about drawing the attention of the citizens, the media and the political decision-makers on the energy waste problem and on the need to urgently do something about it.

During 5 minutes the planet will be able to take a break. It doesn’t take long and it’s for free. Why do this on February 1st, 2007? Because that day the new report of the climatologic experts of the United Nations is presented in Paris. Please circulate this message as much as possible, duplicate it and send it to local politicians as well. Mentioned it on Internet sites, web-logs, post it to mailing lists, send it to friends and acquaintances. Go tell it on the mountain!

Genie in a Bottle

Well, I was in the process of writing a blog about how some friends have really disappointed me but then Simon called.
We talked for over an hour and he told me about the phone conversation he had with his daughter (who lives with her mother who decided that after their daughters birth it was about the right time to tell Simon that she was a lesbian and that she was leaving him).
She is going to be 5 in February(his daughter of course, although...). He usually tells me what they talked about because "whatsherface" doesn't really want us to call at her house and at least this way we can participate in her life. (My daughters consider her their sister!)
Anyways, Simon had told her that some of the roofing between the his mums house and the shed had been blown of and that he had to fix it as the alleyway was now getting wet. She asked if Granddad was going to get wet, too. Granddad is sitting in a jar on the shelf in the shed (long story) and she knows that. So Simon told her that he was safe and she was OK with that.
They talked on for a bit and at the end of the conversation she asked if Simon and his mum could send her a card as she misses them so much. She also asked if he could put a little bit of granddad in too so she could have him with her as well!!!
I can not write in anger about people in light of such an superb moment in a child's life!
Some people might think this a bit morbid, but hey, they are British!

On this note...
Good night!

PS Simon has already told his mother that he is going to wait until she dies, then take her and granddads ashes and have them pressed into a diamond so they are stuck with each other for eternity!

My Simon - My Henry

Yesterday and today weren't the greatest of days health wise.
So I stayed in most of the time, slept, watched some movies and read a little.
Today I watched "50 First Dates" with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
For those of you who don't know what it is about:
Lucy had an accident and lost her ability to retain short term memories.
To keep her from the ugly truth, her father and brother and some family friends go through great lengths to make it apear it is the day after the accident, she can't remember, over and over and over again.
Henry who is usually a real Player falls for her and makes her fall in love him anew, every day!
I won't say anymore, because if you haven't seen it, watch it! It is really worth it!
Seeing this movie made me think about Simon. And then it struck me!

He is my Henry!

My memory loss problems aren't that severe as they are with Lucy.
They usually entail forgetting to pick up the thing I didn't think necessary to put on the list, forgetting some conversations I had (or parts of them) or not remembering things I need to do.
To most people I just seem clumsy or careless.
It always depends on my day. You see the pressure in my brain affects different parts at different times.
That is why sometimes my speech is impaired or my motoric functions, my vision or my balance and quite often my memory.
Simon copes with it.
Yes, he has the odd moments where he would rather strangle me but mainly he stays calm and sorts out the mess.
Another problem we have to deal with are my mood swings. I get very aggressive when stressed, I become overly depressive for apparently no reason, which is all (or in part at least) caused by the Pseudotumor Cerebri (in the future this will be shortened to PTC because I am too lazy to keep writing it out...).
Again, Simon copes with it! He sticks around where others have upped and ran.
He even goes so far as to pick the fight he knows is coming to get it out of the way. After, he comes up and asks "Do you feel better for that?"
When I am having a bad day, I am a real bitch (please excuse my French, but there is no other word for it). He puts up with it. Well not all of it... he does argue back a lot :-)
For Christmas he had a little photo book printed for me (although I did get it early because he thought I needed a cheerer upper). In it where his memories of his life with me! The trips we
we took, things about the kids, our house, the area we lived in and about my work.
On every page there is a little note. Some make me laugh, some make me well up.
He did this for me...!
On his birthday, after not having seen each other for 5 months, he suddenly stood there at my school, in the middle of me giving my class!
He flies over almost every month for a long weekend even though I left England.
We could have stayed there, together but I, knowing myself as I do, know that I would have pushed him away. It might not have been easy, because he would have fought me, but I have had a lifetime of pushing people away. I know how to do it! And I know, I would have succeeded.
Most people don't understand how leaving him saved our relationship, but I know it did.
And you know what:
Simon never says "I wish you hadn't left", he says "I wish we had never moved to England".
He is trying to make me feel better about the fact we are not together, even though he suffers terribly from not being able to see us everyday.
On the other hand, he would have never been able to work the amount of hours he is doing and gotten to a position in the company which in the hopefully not too distant future will allow him to work from home, if we had stayed there. "And if home is Germany," his boss said, "then that is OK with me!"
Simon is the kind of guy that makes me coffee, even though he hates the smell.
When he proposed to me he had shaved for the first time in thirteen years because I don't like beards!
He learned how to do Make-up (from me) so he would know what to do if I needed help on a project.
He loves my children as if they were his own!
He knows, that I am not likely to get much better any time soon. He know there is a very good chance things will get worse. I gave him every opportunity to bail out but he stayed right by my side (though temporarily not in person).
Heck, he has asked to marry me, that should speak for itself!
Simon does or says something every day, that makes me fall in love with him that little bit more.

Simon, you are my world.
I love you!

Oh and I did make that phone call to VW only to be told that I needed to put it in writing....
Go figures.

LOST in Discussion

Another view from my mums house. Simon took this picture on Christmas Eve.
Today was a good day.
No major upsets, no arguments (well almost none) and children who were strangely pleasant...
Schools seems to have been fine, as there were no "such and such did so and so"s.
They did their chores without me having to ask and the younger even emptied the dishwasher without complaint.
We prepared our food together and after lunch they sat down and did their homework.
(I did check their necks to see whether there were strange markings or any evidence of tampering.)
We (well mainly I) have decided to change our eating habits today. Actually I decided that yesterday but I implemented the changes today. My older daughter is having a real problem with over-eating. Unfortunately she inherited that from my fathers side of the family. So we, I did consult the girls, decided that it was time to go on a family diet or rather a "healthy eating regime" as my younger daughter put it.
I have made a weekly plan for meals and one for snacks. Food-wise I am going to reduce the fat to a minimum (as cutting fat altogether is wrong because the body will think that it needs to hang on to the fat in the body as there is no more coming) and fill the plate with vegetables. Rather than having a side of veg there will now be a side dish of rice or potato and the occasional slice of lean meat. We will have one "normal" meal a week, that the girls can choose but other than that we will stick to the plan.
Fortunately I have kids who will eat almost every veg and fruit going, raw or cooked even the real exotic ones!
For breakfast there will me Yogurt with some Muesli and a Grapefruit.
The snack plan is as follows:
There are five slots for each of us and a list to pick from: Carrots, Oranges, Celery Sticks, Apples, Grapes, Grapefruit and whatever other fruit or veg has been bought in fresh that week.
Each of us can pick when and what they want, but no more than 2 from each category (of course the grapes will have to be handled differently, maybe counted?) until our five slots for the day are used up.
My younger one fears that she will fade into nothingness but I did assure her that there were still plenty of calories left in the food we are going to eat for her not to disappear like the Cheshire cat.

The older had her first violin lesson after the holidays and she did surprisingly well for not having practised at all.
She was taught the first and the second finger today and already has some small pieces she has to learn until next Monday. This is only her 4th ever lesson. They are always on Mondays for 22.5 minutes! She is learning very fast and her teacher said that she has talent. All I have to do now is convince her not to be so lazy and practise more.
I so wish I had a piano again. I used to play when I was younger and I really enjoyed it but unfortunately, laziness runs in our family and I did not keep up with it.
Now, I really don't have the money to buy a piano nor do I know where I would put it in our small flat (although if I moved some stuff around....)

Tomorrow we are going to clean the car, providing it isn't pouring down with rain.

Oh and no, I haven't made that phone call yet. It is on my to do list first thing in the morning. I even wrote it into my calendar!!! Along with a number of other things which I have thus far avoided to do...

I speak to Simon on the phone every day. He has a rate where he can call me for free. Sometimes we only say hi and good night but most times we talk for at least 30 minutes. We have talked all through the night before...
Usually he tells me about his day and work, I tell him about my day and the kids and then the conversation drifts of into one direction or another.
You see, whenever I see or read something interesting, strange or funny I think "I ought to tell Simon about this", which I do and we then discuss it or not as the case may be. I can talk to him about absolutely everything. There are no taboos, nothing he doesn't want to talk about and certainly nothing where he is "too much of a man to even consider such a topic" (like tampons and mascara and such things).
And we have great discussions, though sometimes a tad heated!
Tonight I read to him from a website I had discovered today http://www.mistupid.com and we were both nearly wetting ourselves with laughter. I haven't laughed this hard in , ...I don't remember how long.
Simon says (no pun intended) that hearing me laugh is the most beautiful thing in the world. I haven't been doing it much lately.
Things just get on top of me and I sort of forget to be happy.
Strange, I know but that is what happens.

Oh and I am now officially LOST.
Wonder what that is? Find out: http://www.lost.eu/150f1

Ode to Simon

The Odds

Coincidence?

Chance meeting?

Maybe destiny?

What were the odds?

A Union of minds.

An Alliance of souls.

An embrace of hearts.

What were the odds?

A comprehension.

A certainty.

A Complacency.

What were the Odds?

A meeting of coincidence?

A complacent union of comprehensive hearts?

A coincidental alliance?

What were the odds?

Chance?

Destiny?

No!

Predestined!
